Capital Normal University Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2025

To meet the growing international demand for Chinese language teachers,

facilitate Chinese language education around the world, and support the professional development of Chinese language teachers, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China. Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, selected HSK test centers, foreign educational institutions, Chinese language teacher training programs/Chinese departments at foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language teaching, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as Recommending Institutions) may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to further their studies      

in international Chinese language education and related programs at Capital Normal University.      

       

1. ELIGIBILITY      

All applicants shall be:      

1) a non-Chinese citizens;      

2) be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of the Host Institution;      

3) in good physical and mental condition, be in good academic and behavioral standing;      

4) be interested in Chinese language education and related work;      

5) be aged between 16 and 35 years on September 1, 2025. The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45, but those who apply for a scholarship for a Bachelor’s degree shall be younger than 25 under most circumstances.      

6) Both or one of the parents of the applicant is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, and the applicant has foreign nationality at birth, or the applicant was originally a resident of the mainland of China , Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and then emigrated abroad to obtain foreign nationality; our school refers to Document No.12 [2020] of the Ministry of Education of China, and requires the applicant to provide relevant materials.      

       

2. SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS      

A. Scholarship for Doctor’s Degree in International Chinese Education      

Enrollment in September 2025.      

The program provides scholarship for a maximum four academic years.

Note:        

- Applicants shall hold a  Master’s degree majoring in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language,  Linguistics, International Chinese Education or education-related majors;           

- Priority will be given  to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching  institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same  effect.                        

B. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in International Chinese Education      

Enrollment in September 2025.      

The program provides scholarship for a maximum two academic years.

C. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in International Chinese Education            

Enrollment in September 2025.      

The program provides scholarship for a maximum four academic years.

D. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

The program provides scholarship for a maximum eleven-months.

E. Scholarship for One-Semester Study      

Enrollment in September 2025 or March 2026.      

The program provides scholarship for a maximum five-months.

F. Scholarship for Four-Week Study      

Enrollment in July or December 2025.      

The program provides a four-week scholarship.

3. SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE      

Tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (four-week study students are excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance.      

       

4. APPLICATION PROCEDURES     

Starting from February 20th, 2025, applicants can apply for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship by visiting the application website (www.chinese.cn) and CNU International Student Service System.      

1. Visit the scholarship website (http://www.chinese.cn)and check the recommending organizations and receiving institutions;      

2. Submit the application materials online, and communicate with the recommending institutions to obtain the recommendation qualification;      

3. After completing the scholarship website registration, the applicant must complete the online registration procedures in the International Student Service System of Capital Normal University. Website: https://cnu.17gz.org/, applicants need to upload files and fill in information according to system requirements;      

4. Pay attention to the application process, feedback and scholarship evaluation results;      

5. Scholarship recipients could confirm with Capital Normal University to go through the procedures for studying in China and print the award certificate online;      

6. Enroll in university according to the time specified in the admission letter of Capital Normal University.      

       

       

5. APPLICATION DEADLINE (Beijing time)     

1.Apr. 15 (For programme commencing in July);      

2.May. 15 (For programme commencing in September);      

3.Sep. 15 (For programme commencing in December);      

4.Oct. 31 (For programme commencing in March, 2026).      

CLEC will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. Decisions will be based on HSK and HSKK levels and scores, geographical distribution, and other factors. The results will be announced about three months before the program starts.      

       

6. POLICIES REGARDING IN-SERVICE CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS AND CHINESE BRIDGE WINNERS      

1. In-Service Chinese Language Teachers      

In-service Chinese language teachers need to provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.      

2. Chinese Bridge Winners      

Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions need to submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to the Host Institutions directly at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.

Appendix      

Application Documents for International Teachers Scholarship      

       

Ⅰ. For all applicants      

a) a scanned copy of passport photo page;      

b) a scanned copy of score reports of the HSK/HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);      

c) a reference letter by the head of the Recommending Institution;      

d) the foreigner physical examination form.      

       

Ⅱ. For degree scholarship program applicants      

e) a certificate of the highest diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript;      

f) applicants of the Scholarship for a Doctor’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education are required to provide two reference letters from professors or associate professors or experts with equivalent professional titles in relevant fields and a 3,000-word personal statement written in Chinese (including knowledge of the intended area of study and research proposal). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect.      

g) applicants of the Scholarship for a Master’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education are required to provide two reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China.      

       

Ⅲ. In-service Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment and a reference letter from the employer.      

       

Ⅳ. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China. The guardian needs to go to a local notary office in Beijing, and submit the notarization issued by the notary office to Capital Normal University.      

       

Ⅴ. Applicants shall also provide additional documents as required by Capital Normal University.
